Building a Kid's Room

Creating a fun bedroom for your child

When it comes to your child's room, you want to create a place that is more than just a place to sleep. A room should be a place to sleep, study, play, grow, and develop! If you are looking to create this type of room for your child, but aren't sure where to start, we have a few pointers. Here are the main areas to focus on when building a kid's room.

Pick a Theme.

The first step in building a kid's room that will meet all of their expectations is to pick a theme. For younger children, the matter of theme is especially important because it can help foster their imagination and engage them in their play. For example, a room theme of a jungle with exciting animals and bold colors will teach them about animals and ignite their sense of adventure whereas a princess themed room may help your little princess in the making reach for her dreams and believe in herself. The theme of the room can be anything that works with the personality and age of your child. Themes are created by certain elements all working together such as paint colors, wall decals, wall borders, furniture color, lamps, artwork, and other small touches all keeping with a common theme.

Leave Open Space.

Aside from the theme, another important aspect of building a kid's room is to remember to use space wisely. While it can be tempting to fill up as much space as possible with items like beds, dressers, shelves, desks, and toy chests, you need to remember that kids need room to grow and explore. Make sure you calculate in ample floor space for your child to play to make sure the room is about more than sleep and study because fun should always be a part of your child's life!

Choose the Right Bed.

Other than the theme and setup of space, the bed is the other single most important element of the room. From bunk beds to trundle beds and captain beds, there are plenty of options for this aspect to help you make the most of the space. For younger children, consider a castle bed which can double as a play space and bed. For older children sharing a room, bunk beds that separate are a good choice in case they end up in separate rooms as teens.
